About

I was born on September 8, 1990 in New Jersey.  I spent my formative years exploring the local creative scenes of New York City and Asbury Park.  Eventually, I began playing music and creating art at age 14.

In 2008, I moved to Hoboken, NJ to attend Stevens Institute of Technology, and to further immerse myself within New York's creative community.  While pursuing my education, I toured internationally, playing drums with Bruce Springsteen & The E St. Band, Against Me!, Kvelertak, Madball, and more.  In 2012, I began my formal art education, studying with oil painter Michelle Doll.

I graduated from Stevens in 2013, receiving my Bachelors Degree in Business & Technology with Honors, as well as the school’s award for “Most Innovative Senior Design Project.”  In December 2013, I joined Des Moines, Iowa-based heavy metal band Slipknot.  I’ve since performed on the band’s fifth, sixth, and seventh studio albums: “.5: The Gray Chapter,” (2014) “We Are Not Your Kind,” (2019) and “The End, So Far” (2022, Roadrunner), as well as its third live album / theatrical documentary of the band’s first-ever performance in Mexico “Day of the Gusano,” (Eagle Rock) and studio single “All Out Life” (Roadrunner).

.5: The Gray Chapter” debuted at #1 on the US Billboard 200, as well as in Japan, Australia, Canada, Russia, and Switzerland.  It has been certified Gold in the US, Australia, Austria, Germany, and the U.K., and Platinum in Russia.  The album received nominations in the 57th and 58th Grammy Awards (“The Negative One” and “Custer,” Best Metal Performance; Best Rock Album). “We Are Not Your Kind” (Roadrunner) debuted at #1 on the US Billboard 200, as well as in the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, Canada, Belgium, Finland, and Ireland. “The End, So Far” debuted at #2 on the US Billboard 200, and #1 in Australia, Germany, Greece, Mexico, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Since 2014, I have spent my time touring with Slipknot throughout North, South, and Central America, Europe, U.K., Russia, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia, as well as performing and releasing music with Hesitation Wounds: a Los Angeles-based hardcore band co-founded by myself, Jeremy Bolm (Touché Amoré), Neeraj Kane (Hope Conspiracy, Suicide File), and Stephen LaCour (ex-Trap Them).  The band released a four-song EP “Hesitation Wounds” (Secret Voice) in 2013, and its debut full-length “Awake For Everything” (6131) in 2016.

Since relocating to Nashville, Tennessee in 2015, I have continued to paint, focusing primarily on oil paintings. On July 7, 2022, I hosted my debut solo art exhibition A Hollow Realm on July 7, 2022 at Rampart Studios Gallery in Los Angeles, CA — displaying a collection of oil paintings for the first time since I began creating the body of work in 2014. I have also collaborated with SJC Custom Drums, creating one-of-a-kind mixed media paintings on drum shells.

In 2018, I began working with Best Buddies Tennessee, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Since 2020, I have collaborated with SJC Custom Drums and Vater Drumsticks in releasing my first signature products: the Vater “908” Drumstick, my Signature SJC 48ply Snare Drum, my “First Blood” SJC practice pad, “The Crucible” SJC Snare Drum, and the Jay Weinberg Signature SJC Custom Drum Kit. In 2023, I released my own signature virtual instrument, Mixwave: Jay Weinberg — a Native Instruments / Kontakt DAW plug-in that gives users the ability to record their own music with a comprehensive sample library of my entire drum and cymbal collection, as recorded by me.

I was voted “Drummer of the Year” in the 2014 Loudwire Music Awards, one of the “Top Three Drummers Who Made a Difference in 2015” in DRUM! Magazine, “Best Metal Drummer” in the 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020, and 2022 MusicRadar / Rhythm “Best In Drums” Polls, Best Metal Drummer and #1 Rock Drummer in Modern Drummer’s 2017, 2020, 2022, and 2023 Readers Polls, as well as “Metal Drummer of the Year” and “Drum Recording of the Year” in the 2021 and 2022 Drumeo Awards.

Since February 2024, I have been playing with Southern California icons Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves.
